Project: Plant Structure (Shredder)

Description:

A heavy plant structure of approximately 80 tonnes with a mixture of braced bays and moment connections. All floors were finished in open grid flooring with various bracketry and holes to accommodate plant and kickers were provided to all openings and external edges. Floors were accessed via an external steel staircase of multipe flights together with caged ladders and platforms to two elevations. Two sides included hot rolled channel rails for cladding while the two open sides required hand railing at floor edges. Due to the complexity of the structure and interface with the plant, we made efficient use of 3D DWF models together with the free Autodesk Design Review software to empower the design team to view the steel structure in realtime. The erection sequence was split into 5 phases to allow installation of the plant during construction.
